Privacy policy

What we collect, why we collect it, who we give it to, and how to get access to it or have it corrected.

SYD CABS is a trading name of W Eats Pty Ltd (ABN 68 649 215 967). This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who we give it to, and how you get access to it or have it corrected. It applies to passengers, drivers, operators and anyone else who deals with us.

What we collect

If you travel with us

Your name and contact details, the trip itself — pick-up, drop-off, time and fare — the payment details used to pay for it, and anything you tell us in a booking, a complaint or an incident report. Where a complaint or incident involves your trip, the camera footage from that vehicle.

If you drive or operate with us

Your name, date of birth, contact details and address; your NSW driver licence and driver authorisation numbers; photographs on your identification documents; the results of driver and vehicle checks made through the Point to Point Transport Commissioner’s systems and the Driver Vehicle Dashboard; your ABN or ACN; bank account details for settlement; insurance, registration and taxi licence documents; records of your onboarding and training; trip and dispatch records; and complaint and incident records.

If you contact us

Whatever you send us, and the contact details you send it from.

We ask for sensitive information only where we have to, and with your consent unless the law permits otherwise. If you do not give us information we are required to collect — a licence number, an authorisation, evidence of insurance — we may not be able to provide the service or make a payment to you.

What this website collects

This site is deliberately light. It runs no advertising network, no session recording, no analytics profiling, and no social media pixels. We do not sell personal information, and we do not disclose it to advertisers.

The site loads a small number of third-party services, each for a stated purpose:

  • Supabase — stores form submissions and uploaded documents.
  • Cloudflare Turnstile — the “are you human” check on our forms, which stops automated submissions.
  • Stripe — takes payments. Card details go to Stripe and are never held by us.
  • Google Maps and Places — the fare estimator’s address lookup and route calculation.
  • Google Fonts — typefaces.
  • YouTube — the driver onboarding video, embedded on the driver application.
  • Anthropic — powers Sydi, the chat assistant. What you type into the chat window is sent to Anthropic to produce a reply. We do not keep a copy of the conversation, and it is not linked to your name or to any booking. Do not type card numbers, licence numbers or other identifying details into the chat.

Each of those receives your IP address as a consequence of your browser contacting it, and each has its own privacy policy. Our server also uses Resend to send acknowledgement emails, the Australian Business Register to check an ABN you give us, and flight data services to show flight status.

Your browser can be set to refuse cookies. Some parts of the site may not work if you do.

Why we use it

  • To take and dispatch bookings, and to calculate and collect fares.
  • To verify identity and eligibility to drive, and to meet our obligations as an authorised booking service provider under the Point to Point Transport (Taxis and Hire Vehicles) Act 2016.
  • To investigate complaints and incidents, and to pay refunds.
  • To administer driver and operator agreements, including payments owed to you and amounts owed to us.
  • To meet our record-keeping obligations under transport law and tax law.
  • To keep passengers, drivers and the public safe.

Who we give it to

  • The Point to Point Transport Commissioner and other regulators, where required or authorised by law — including notifiable occurrences.
  • Police, where required or authorised by law.
  • The operator of the vehicle you drive, so far as necessary for them to meet their own obligations.
  • Our service providers — the dispatch system, payment providers, insurers, and the services listed above — for the purposes described here and no other.
  • A credit reporting body, in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Privacy (Credit Reporting) Code, where an amount is overdue. We give written notice and a reasonable opportunity to pay first.

Personal information about a driver is not disclosed to a complainant, and personal information about a complainant is not disclosed to a driver, beyond what is necessary for the driver to answer the allegation.

Camera footage

Taxis carry a security camera system required by law. Footage is accessed only where it is relevant to an investigation, is handled in accordance with the Point to Point Transport (Taxis and Hire Vehicles) Regulation, and is not used for any other purpose. Unauthorised use of a recording is an offence.

When a complaint or incident report reaches us, the footage relevant to that trip is secured straight away and kept until the matter and any review of it are finally determined. Footage that has not been secured is not available after 90 days.

Where it is held, and for how long

We hold personal information securely, with access limited to staff who need it for their work. Records are kept for not less than seven years, as transport law requires. Complaint records — what was alleged, the evidence considered, the response given, the outcome and any refund — are kept for the same period.

We are an Australian business and personal information is generally held in Australia. Some of the services listed above operate cloud infrastructure that may store or process data outside Australia; where that happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure it is handled consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.

Marketing

We may send you operational messages about your booking, your application, or your account — those are not marketing and you cannot opt out of them while you deal with us. If we send you anything promotional, every message carries a way to unsubscribe, and you can also ask us to stop at any time using the contact details below.

Getting access, and having it corrected

You can ask us for the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it. Write to the Privacy Officer using the details below. We will respond within a reasonable time. There is no charge for a straightforward request.

If we cannot give you access — which is uncommon, and usually because giving it would reveal someone else’s personal information or because the law prevents it — we will tell you why.

Complaints about privacy

If you think we have not respected your privacy, or have acted inconsistently with this policy, contact the Privacy Officer. Tell us what happened and what you would like done about it. We will investigate and tell you the outcome.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you can take the matter to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner — oaic.gov.au, or 1300 363 992. You can do that whether or not you have complained to us first.
